14/01/2014 New beginnings

New hall © E Weeks
This was our first time in our new hall. It was slightly intimidating walking into that large space not really sure where to put everything. But we quickly settled in, got the toys out and muddled our way through the session.

Perfect floor for playing with the train track
Circle time worked well, a moment of peace allowing us all to introduce ourselves to the group before explaining the plans for that session.

Straw and tissue roll towers
A carefully executed construction made
without the stress of being timed.

Our activity for the older children was a competition to create the tallest tower that they could using only tape and plastic straws in ten minutes. The designs were very creative but I think that they were all surprised by just how quickly those minutes flew by. For the younger children the straws were replace with toilet roll tubes.

We also had a wide variety of resources to look through, thank you everybody who contributed.

Bar area (unstocked!)
There were a few discussions about how to cater for the older children within our home education community as, locally, their numbers are growing. Within the hall we do have a bar area available that could be utilised for something if anybody has any ideas.

Overall a great session and I'm looking forward to the next one on the 28th January. The theme will be Chinese new year and, though our plans are tentative at the moment, we're hoping to have some cooking, crafting and science to offer.
