01/04/2014 Eggs galore!

Today we had the hama beads out for decorating Easter cards. They had a special surprise in them, a small packet of poppy seeds for scattering!

We also had eggs to decorate, some with acrylic paint and some with stickers.

The big hit of the day were the Easter biscuits. Almost every child had a go at making these and they all definitely enjoyed eating them!

To carry on with the Easter theme we all had a look and feel of a 'naked' egg. Well, three actually! We have no photo as (not too surprisingly) none of them survived the handling. They felt very much like water bombs.

'Naked' eggs are eggs that have been left in vinegar for one to two days, this breaks down the shell leaving you with an unusual looking egg that can be used in further experiments. We also had a go at turning eggs silver using a candle flame. This is pretty hard to pull off but it is an interesting effect to observe, there is a video of it here.

And next time...

We will be returning on the 22nd April. This is also Earth day which marks the anniversary of what many people consider to be the birth of the modern day environmental movement. Early plans are to make seed bombs so don't wear you best clothes as they'll be playing with mud! Talking of clothes I suspect that we'll have some dragons about too for celebrating St. Georges day (on the 23rd) so don't forget your armour.
